Inter-session

Inter-Session

First piloted in the school year of 2002 - 2003, Anzar's annual Inter-Session has proven to be wildly successful each ensuing year. Inter-session is a two-week class offered to all Anzar students during the first two weeks back to school in January, after winter break. Students select a two-week elective based on their individual interests (selection happens in October or November). This  all-day elective is a way of offering a breadth of electives that a small high school could not normally sustain with a small staff and student body. In addition, it gives both students and teachers the chance to try something different for a short period. Several classes are team-taught, and there is some community involvement in the instruction, as well. Three units of credit are assigned to the class. Examples of classes offered in past years include: Intensive Baking, Forensic Science, Extreme Fitness, Classical Music Appreciation, Rock Star 101, Dance Performance, Alternative Art workshop, Film Studies, and Everything Homemade. Students also have the opportunity to work in an Internship of choice during this time.

Traditionally, students come back from winter break eager for this experience, and it fosters a positive school climate for the start of the second semester, afterwards.
